![]() New Superintendent Selected The USD 262 Board of Education unanimously approved a contract with Cory Gibson to be the next superintendent for Valley Center Public Schools. The Board’s decision brought to conclusion a rigorous search process that spanned nearly three months and attracted twenty-two applicants. Four finalists were selected from the applicant pool on April 25, and those individuals were invited to participate in interviews during the week of April 30.
Board President Bart Balthazor indicated that Valley Center was fortunate to have an exceptional applicant pool, which allowed the Board to select four outstanding candidates for more intensive review. “It was clear to board members that any of our finalists had the skills necessary to lead our district to new heights, he said. “The most difficult part of the process was finding the one candidate who most exemplified our district’s future goals. Ultimately it became clear that Cory is that individual.”
Gibson has served as the superintendent of schools for the Halstead – Bentley district in southcentral Kansas since 2010. During that time he directed numerous functions and initiatives including budget development, curriculum and instruction, district assessments, and professional development. Described as a very involved and interactive leader, Gibson developed the Vision 2020 event, which created an opportunity for the communities served by the Halstead – Bentley school district to offer direct input concerning the future of their schools and students.
“Valley Center schools are tied very closely to our communities, Balthazor said. “Cory’s efforts to actively engage the community in setting goals and direction for the school district helped us determine that he is an exceptional choice to lead our district into the future.”
Gibson indicated that the opportunities presented by the Valley Center school district and community were the factors that caused him to enter his name for consideration. “My family and I are absolutely thrilled at the prospect of becoming a part of the Valley Center School District, he said. “The achievement and opportunities provided to students in Valley Center are far above many in like-sized districts, the facilities are impressive, and the community support evident. These attributes are what compelled me to apply to be the next Superintendent of Valley Center.”
Mr. Gibson will replace current Valley Center USD 262 superintendent, Dr. Scott Springston, on July 1. Dr. Springston submitted his resignation earlier this year to accept the position of superintendent of schools in Park Hill, Missouri.
